Invest in guttering to stand the test of time

Over time, an overflowing gutter can result in damage to your home’s foundations. Making sure your guttering is fit for purpose will avoid any costly repairs later down the line. But replacing your guttering can also go a long way in freshening up your home’s exterior.

Our high-capacity guttering and downpipes are made from robust uPVC – making them both long-lasting and resilient to environmental stresses. With a range of styles and guttering colours available, we can guarantee a stylish yet discreet finish to your home. Find out more about guttering replacement from Roofline Design.

Traditional Tudor-style façades to transform your home

Our stylish mock Tudor beams and boards are made from hardy polyurethane replica wood beams for a truly authentic finish. With textured grains akin to that of natural oak, and a range of traditional Tudor board colours available, our polyurethane boards maintain the charming quality of genuine Tudor boards, without the costly maintenance or vulnerability to warping, rot or other environmental stresses.

In fact, you won’t even be able to tell the difference – until a few years down the line when real wood boards would start to show signs of wear, while your replica wood boards look as good as the day they were installed. Our replica wood decorative facia boards can replace old wooden exteriors or add a new allure to your home, adding value for years to come.

Five reasons you should invest in a solid conservatory roof

If you’re thinking of investing in a conservatory for your home – or you’re looking to improve your existing extension to enjoy the benefits all year long – then it’s time to take a closer look at your roofing options.

Glass, polycarbonate and solid conservatory roofs

So, what’s the problem with glass? While it lets plenty of sunlight into your space, it’s also known to lose heat quickly – and sun glare is an added frustration. Both glass and UPVC panels can suffer from a build up of condensation due to poor ventilation, and they don’t do much in terms of noise reduction either.

UPVC and glass roofs might seem like the more affordable option in the short term, but they can cost you hundreds in energy bills later down the line – or leave your conservatory too chilly to really enjoy during the colder months.

Solid conservatory roofs are the solution. Eliminating these factors and offering an attractive finish to your conservatory, a solid tiled roof is the right investment for your home. Here’s why.

#1 Investing will help you save on energy bills

A solid conservatory roof goes a long way in reducing your energy bills. Many people often leave their conservatories relatively untouched for huge chunks of the year – simply because it costs too much to heat!

At Roofline Design, we build tailor-made conservatory roofs to maximise heat retention through the colder months and regulate the heat during the summer, helping you to save money all year round. Longer term, the cost of installing a solid tiled roof could pay for itself (and then some!) with what you can save on heating bills.

#2 Enjoy your conservatory, whatever the weather

Upgrade your conservatory with a solid tiled roof, and never again will it be off-limits on a blistering summer’s day! Now that your conservatory can better regulate heat, you can enjoy this open and welcoming space all year round. Better ventilation also means it’s safe to install blinds, so you can deal with that pesky sun glare and enjoy a little more privacy whenever you need it.

#3 A quieter conservatory experience

Most people who own conservatories already are all too familiar with how noisy they can be when the rain is really coming down – but with a solid conservatory roof, you can enjoy the peace and quiet. Transform your conservatory into a cosy haven and listen to the muted rain outside as you nestle in with a good book.

#4 Help to keep your home secure

Sad but true, many burglars try their luck by breaking into homes through the conservatory. That’s why it’s so vital to ensure that the doors leading from the conservatory into your home are kept locked and windows shut during the night and when you’re out during the day.

But there’s another security risk with panelled conservatory roofs that a solid tiled roof eliminates. The cheap and popular UPVC panels often used for conservatory roofs are easier to prise off, while a solid roof means no point of entry.

#5 Add value to your property

Often more affordable and practical than a full extension, conservatories are a great way to increase space and improve the overall appearance of your home. With a custom-built solid tiled roof from Roofline Design, you can ensure that your conservatory matches the overall aesthetic of your home and can add value to your property.

How much should it cost to replace your roofline?

How much should it cost to replace your roofline?

How do you know when it’s time to give your roofline some TLC and how do you ensure you’re getting the right price?

It can be difficult to nail down how much any major renovation or repair work on your home should cost. Every supplier you ask seems to provide a totally different quote and anyone you know who’s had work done seems to have got some great deal that you just can’t find online.

The truth is, you’re unlikely to find a fixed price for roofline repair from any reputable company. The cost is subjective to how much work needs doing and how extensive any damage already is.

How do I know if I need to replace my roofline?

If your roofline is looking worse for wear, you might already be considering investing in a replacement. But if you’re still unsure, here are three warning signs that your roof needs some urgent attention.

Overflowing gutters

Gutters are known to block from time to time. Debris – like leaves and dirt – can clog up your gutters which then stops water from safely draining away. When water spills over the gutter and flows down the walls, it can damage your home’s foundations. It’s better to deal with this sooner rather than later as an overflowing gutter will quickly lead to damp.

Visual damage

If your fascias, soffits and barge boards are made of timber, and you can see the paint starting to peel away, it may be that the boards have begun to rot. This is a warning sign that water is now able to enter your home through the damaged boards. Our hard-wearing, low maintenance uPVC fascia boards are a long-lasting alternative to traditional timber boards – and come with a 20-year guarantee against discolouration, warping and cracking.

Damaged flashing is another tell-tale sign that your roofline needs some TLC. Flashing is the material often found around chimneys or roof vents to prevent water from entering your home. Damaged flashing can lead to water seeping through the seam between your roof and the protruding object, leading to bigger problems like mould and mildew build-up and rotted timber. If your flashing looks worn, loose or damaged, it’s advisable to have it examined by an expert.

Leaking or sagging

The best place to assess the health of your roofline is in the attic. Brave the spiders to get a better look at your inner roofing, and check for any damp or darkened patches. Watermarks or stains may be a sign that, while not currently damp, water has been able to leak through the roof – and likely will again!

Take note of the structural condition of your roof. Sagging means that the structure of your roof is compromised, possibly due to long-term exposure to the elements, and requires urgent attention.

It’s important that you don’t ignore these signs, as the longer you wait, the worse the damage can be – and the higher the cost for repair.

Where do I start looking?

While it’s important not to feel pressured by companies into rushing to buy a new roofline, it’s also crucial to take steps to minimise damage to your home. Shop around for quotes, get advice and settle on a company that makes you feel confident about your investment. It’s also worth checking out reviews and ratings on social media and websites like Yell or Checkatrade.

Don’t fall for high-pressure sales tactics – we know it’s easier said than done, but keep in mind that many roofing contractors (including us!) will offer you a free survey to come out and take a look rather than pressuring you to pay straight away. This should be done by someone with technical know-how too – if the person you speak to needs to refer questions on to someone else, it’s a sure sign you’re dealing with a salesperson rather than someone useful!

How much do Roofline Design charge?

As we say, there is no one answer to how much it costs to repair your roofline – it depends on size, the current condition of your roof and how much work is needed. As you would expect, replacing broken guttering is less costly than removing and replacing rotting timber. But to get a clear idea of the cost to repair your roofline, our advice would be to request a home visit from a surveyor.

At Roofline Design, we’re currently running a special offer starting from £900. Based on the full extent of the work, we’ll provide you one cost for a full fascia, soffit and guttering replacement, with a bird guard, concealed ventilation and felt trays all included in the price as needed. Take a look at our special offers page for more info.

Of course, that cost is for a full roofline replacement – if you just need repairs to your guttering, or just the fascias, for example, it’s possible that it might be lower. That’s why we like to come out and take a look – to make sure we only quote for what we actually need to do!
